why choose Carousel?
Great question! Our options make sense for you if:
- you want to minimize your environmental impact (less than 20% of donations are actually reused, read more)
- you're short on time (our options are convenient)
- you have premium items to swap for shopping credit (there's value in the circular economy!)
- you want to support a small, mom-founded, mission-driven business <3
We're in favor of all circular paths for second hand children's clothing. If you choose another option, we urge you to make sure that you are passing along accepted items in good condition.
Clothing items that are no long in good condition can be recycled.
how does it work?
For pickups:
We'll reach out by email to schedule your pickup within about one week of your request. The message will come from hello@choosecarousel.com.
Please note that pickups are during business hours. They can be left at a secure location for us to pick up, like in your lobby or with your doorman, or we can meet you at your door.
For mail ins:
We'll send you a mailing label that you can use with any (reused!) box or mailer you like. This will be emailed within 1 - 2 business days of purchase.
what items do you accept?
We accept clean baby and children's clothing through size 8 (medium) of any season in good condition with no stains, rips, excessive pilling, missing pieces or other major wear.
96 million tons of textile waste are landfilled every year, including perfectly good clothing.
Carousel's mission is to keep a broad range of children's styles in circulation by making it convenient for you to pass along outgrown items responsibly (and buy one-of-a-kind capsules in the next size up!)

how do I get shopping credit?
We will provide a flat $20 merchandise credit for bags with 5 or more in season items in good condition from premium brands.
Premium brands include Bonpoint, bout d'chou, Crew Cuts, Hanna Andersson, Jacadi, mini boden, NEXT, Ralph Lauren, REI, Tea Collection.
what happens to items not accepted?
Items that we are unable to sell but in good condition will be passed along for reuse via local clothing swaps or donated to one of our local NYC charities that provide children's items to families in need. We regularly contribute in both ways.
We recycle textiles that are in poor condition and unfit for reuse.
what should I do with styles in poor condition?
These should be recycled.
There are many online options for this including ThredUp and Trashie.
