Brooklyn: a circular neighborhood guide

The circular economy is something more people are turning to in our homebase of Brooklyn and across the country–not just because it can lighten your environmental footprint and save money–but because of how much fun the experience can be.

There is a unique thrill in discovering an uncommon treasure, breathing new life into something once cherished, or scoring the perfect item for free just when you needed it. It transforms a simple chore into an act of community and creativity. At Carousel, we live for that "new-to-you" spark, so we’ve rounded up our favorite local organizations and businesses that make circular living the most exciting way to navigate the borough.

Big Reuse (charity): Retail center with donated building materials, furniture and household goods. They now have locations in both Gowanus and Bushwick.

Carousel (female-led, small local business): Personalized boxes of pre-loved baby and children’s clothing and local pickup services for responsibly passing along outgrown items.

Diaperkind (small local business): Cloth diaper delivery service, serving NYC since 2009.

Brooklyn Book Bodega (charity): Their mission is to increase the number of 100+ book homes for kids 0 - 18 in NYC.

Find the Thread Upholstery (female-led small local business): Restores and transforms vintage furniture pieces.

Maison Jar (female-led small local business): Refillery and grocery store in Greenpoint with food, personal care and home essentials.

Green Gooding (small local business): Local rental service for tools, equipment and small appliances.

Treasure. It (small local business): Free app for making it easier and safer to give away or find free items locally and keep good stuff out of landfills.
